The British rapper Minimal Simz is not messing all-around. Her hottest album, At times I May Be Introvert, is (in spite of its title) a fearless, monumental accomplishment with amazing manufacturing, lyricism and eyesight. We give a listen on this week’s show and chat about the arresting ways Very little Simz examines fame, identification and empowerment.
We’ve also obtained new kinds from the mounting reggaeton singer Jhay Cortez, jazz pianist Kirk Lightsey, steel veterans Iron Maiden, a beautiful debut from the singer Girl Blackbird and far more. Nate Chinen of WBGO and Jazz Evening in The us joins NPR Music’s Lars Gotrich, Radio Milwaukee’s Tarik Moody, WXPN’s John Morrison, NPR’s Anamaria Sayre and Cyrena Touros, together with host Robin Hilton, as they share their picks for the finest albums out on Sep. 3.
